Contraindication is a medical term that refers to a condition or factor that makes a certain treatment or procedure inadvisable.  Please see more here and advise me prior to your appointment if you have any contraindications.

The following conditions are total contraindications where if you have any of the following the treatment will not be able to take place:​

  • Intoxication (through drink or drugs)

  • Recent scar tissue

  • Recent operations (dependent on site of surgery)

  • Severe bruising, open cuts or abrasions in treatment area

  • High Temperature or Fever

  • Are undergoing cancer treatment  (please note I do not offer oncology massage)

  • Digestive complaints – vomiting, diarrhoea

  • Acute Infectious or Contagious Diseases

  • Severe and contagious skin diseases

  • Recent Haemorrhage and haemophilia

  • Thrombosis/embolism/DVT

  • Meningitis, Inflammation of the Brain

  • Undiagnosed lumps and bumps

 

Pregnancy:  massage should not take place in the first three months or if there is a history of miscarriage or other complications.

 

For the following conditions, consent may need to be gained from your GP or practitioner before treatment can go ahead.

  • Severe circulatory disorders, cardiovascular/heart conditions

  • Very high or low blood pressure

  • Recent surgery (dependent on site of surgery)

  • Recent fractures or broken bones

  • Dysfunction of the nervous System (Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, MND, Cerebral Palsy)

  • Epilepsy

  • Medical Oedema

  • Kidney disease

  • Liver disease

  • Osteoporosis

  • Acute Rheumatism or Arthritis

  • Varicose veins

  • Diabetes

  • Asthma

  • Trapped/Pinched/Inflamed nerves

  • Back problems (slipped disc, damage to vertebrae)

  

Local Contraindications (where treatment can take place with caution)

  •  Cuts/Abrasions

  • Bruising/Swelling

  • Sunburn

  • Skin Conditions (Eczema, Dermatitis, Psoriasis)

  • Frozen shoulder
