Contraindication is a medical term that refers to a condition or factor that makes a certain treatment or procedure inadvisable.  Please see more here and advise me prior to your appointment if you have any contraindications.

The following conditions are total contraindications where if you have any of the following the treatment will not be able to take place:​

 

  • Intoxication (through drink or drugs)

  • Very recent surgery on neck or face

  • Very recent scar tissue in treatment area

  • Contagious or infectious diseases

  • Recent Haemorrhage and haemophilia

  • Thrombosis/embolism/DVT

  • Are undergoing cancer treatment (please note I do not offer oncology massage)

  • Meningitis, inflammation of the brain

  • Undiagnosed lumps and bumps

  • High temperature or fever

  • Severe scalp or skin infections

  • Severe or painful acne which has flared up

  • Severe bruising, open cuts or abrasions in treatment area

  • Acute inflammation or swelling in treatment area

  • Current severe toothache

 

Pregnancy:  massage should not take place in the first three months or if there is a history of miscarriage or other complications

 

Fillers and Botox:  If you have had fillers, Botox or facial injections within the last 6 weeks, treatment cannot take place.

 

For the following conditions, consent may need to be gained from your GP or practitioner before treatment can go ahead.

 

  • Severe circulatory disorders, cardiovascular/heart conditions

  • Very high or low blood pressure

  • Recent surgery (dependent on site of surgery)

  • Dysfunction of the nervous System (Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, MND, Cerebral Palsy)

  • Bell’s Palsy

  • Epilepsy

  • Osteoporosis in treatment area

  • Acute Rheumatism or Arthritis in treatment area

  • Diabetes

  • Recent whiplash injury

 

Local Contraindications (where treatment can take place with caution)

 

  • Bruising/swelling in treatment area

  • Skin Conditions (Eczema, Dermatitis, Psoriasis)

  • Psoriasis or eczema which may be sore

  • Painful cold sores

  • Arthritis in the neck area

  • Conjunctivitis
